Arturo J. Morales – Castle Rock, CO
Retired Fire Chief Castle Rock Fire Department
“As a retired Fire Chief, I’m grateful to see at-risk Emergency Responders benefit from KAHUBA’s wide range of relaxing, non-invasive therapeutic programs. For over a decade, I have witnessed firefighters/police/sheriff/doctors/caregivers/veterans AND civilians dramatically improve their wellbeing. I am so convinced of the authenticity and effectiveness of KAHUBA programs that I’ve personally contributed hundreds of volunteer hours to maintain and improve their ranches over the last 8 years. During this time, I’ve seen people from all levels of society benefit from participating in KAHUBA programs. Founder and Executive Director, Andrea Pomarico, has doggedly pursued KAHUBA’s vision of offering wellness services to those in need with a level of love and compassion rarely seen by the developers of such programs. She and her team also serve as mentors to live-in staffers who exponentially grow their compassion and service to our community. By stewarding KAHUBA sanctuary animals and land in intentionally guided ways, interns experience a healthy relationship with ALL as our future leaders!”
Steve Dobo – Denver, CO
Founder, Colorado Youth for Change; CEO/Founder, Zero Dropouts & Up With Africa
“As a result of my positive transformation from KAHUBA’s ongoing programs, I’ve been inspired to serve KAHUBA Board of Directors as past President, and Board of Advisors since 2020. I’ve personally experienced some degree of mental health challenges in my life and appreciate KAHUBA programs helping me navigate my own life circumstances more easily, empowering me with simple, powerful tools and techniques that offer self-soothing and self-healing that I can take wherever I go. I had also been struggling with debilitating chronic discomfort in my upper arm, stiffness, achy joints, along with scar tissue left from old injuries in my left arm. Experiencing the BEMER Therapy during workshops was valuable for shifting my overall mental, emotional and physical state, impressing me so that I purchased my own unit to use at home.”
Mary Sullivan – Washington, DC
Chaplain at Washington Hospital Center, Founder DC Doula Collective, Certified Yoga Teacher and Reiki Master
As a KAHUBA Board of Advisors member and program participant having personal experiences participating in many of their sponsored events over 6 years time, there are three among many compelling realities about KAHUBA I’d like to illustrate. Namely, the restorative capacity of KAHUBA’s programming stand out in the following ways:
The nature of KAHUBA’s programming is literally nature, and to keep with the metaphor, it is “perennial.” By investing into KAHUBA’s programs, participants access the sanctuary, an indelible, infinite source of renewable healing. By affording the opportunity to shepherd people who are in need of its care, the return is forever compounding.
It is my great privilege to further advocate for KAHUBA, championing the experiences that have shaped my own life allows me to give back to the programming and sanctuary that’s done so much for me.
Stephen P. Weiss M.D. – Santa Fe, NM
Board Certified Physician, Family Practice & Holistic Integrative Medicine
“I arrived at KAHUBA during a time of great upheaval and uncertainty in my life. I was facing serious health challenges, under considerable stress, and scared. Upon meeting KAHUBA’s staff, I felt at ease. A feeling of hope washed over me and I sensed that profound healing was possible here, which proved to be extremely accurate. I experienced deep relaxation and an opening in my heart during a session of sound healing. My spiritual connection was enhanced, and I was able to see my health challenges in the context of a broader perspective which provided solace and some much needed distance from the challenges at hand. KAHUBA staff were a constant source of encouragement and positivity, devoted to my wholeness and healing, as well as their ranch animals. I am happy to report that 1 year later my medical condition has been completely arrested. Using BEMER Therapy at home daily, alongside the multi-modality healing work I received at KAHUBA, I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that my stay at their Sanctuary kick-started my healing process in a profound way and played a crucial role in my healing.”
Adi O’Donnell – Parker, CO
Sophomore at Ponderosa High School
Hello there! I’m a Douglas County student who has been participating in KAHUBA’s volunteer program with my family since I was a little girl. For the past 10 years, I’ve steadily learned more and more about holistic self-healing, compassionate animal stewardship, and how important loving and respecting nature is if we’re going to have a healthy planet in the future. In hindsight, I think exploring all these activities probably saved my life.
I started coming to KAHUBA’s Castle Rock animal sanctuary after my mom and dad divorced, which had made my older sister and I feel sad, depressed and a little lonely. I was super shy back then, as an introverted young person with very few friends. My mom thought being around KAHUBA’s happy horses, gentle curious llamas, and friendly dogs would be an uplifting family activity for us all out in the countryside where the breeze always blew fresh air along the mountains, and big dreamy clouds filled the gigantic endless sky; a very different feeling to our suburban home life in Littleton. I was hooked after our first visit and begged to come back as often as I could, even when the rest of my family had other plans!
After a few years, my mom remarried and we became a big blended family of 6… this was exciting, challenging, and confusing all at the same time – and a lot to make sense of. My mom thought it would be a great idea for us all to spend time together on the ranch, including my step dad who is a veteran and suffers from PTSD. KAHUBA’s programs help with that too. KAHUBA became the place that we all could escape to, where we learned little tips and tricks for creating our own special healing spaces at home. Mine is tucked in the corner of my closet, where I have my vision board, favorite tiny singing bowl to help me relax, and small meaningful objects and healing crystals that are tools to help me relax and refocus when I feel overwhelmed, sad or stressed out at home…or just want to feel happy!
Being out on the ranch with the animals really feels like magic! I instantly feel better just by gently brushing their bodies, combing out their tangled manes, and having them cuddle up right next to me knowing they can trust me 100%. Somehow by being near the horses, it’s just easy to hear my own inner thoughts and make sense of my world, and share what’s on my mind.
Andrea began offering fun workshops for kids, mentoring me and other teens in all the things KAHUBA offered, even taking us on some really cool field trips out in the wilderness where we would playfully and carefully traipse into the forest to discover all sorts of little surprises in nature My favorite thing is playing our singing bowls out in nature, since strangers and animals both would stop to listen to the relaxing tones that gently echoed all around us.
Now at age 16, I am confident, and even a leader in my school and sports team, receiving the Most Outstanding Freshman Award last year, despite having just moved to Parker entering a new school district knowing not a single friend. Andrea feels like a cross between an aunt and a best friend who I can share anything with and totally be myself around. I really enjoy helping her mentor other KAHUBA youth whenever I can, letting them discover for themselves all the things KAHUBA offers through their animal rescue programs, sound and vibrational healing, meditations, restorative movement, healing creative arts, crystal technology tools, and experiences out in nature.
I love KAHUBA and their ability to deeply touch your heart, pull people out of their shells, and help us each carve out our positive paths ahead to reach our goals and dreams, which really changes lives… because that’s what it has done for me!
Dr. Kimberly Keene, DC – Larkspur, CO
Doctor of Chinese Medicine and Chiropractic, Retired Clinical Practitioner
As a previous clinical practice owner in Castle Rock, I have been involved as a KAHUBA 11-year program participant, presenter, co-facilitator, and volunteer, serving on their Board of Directors since 2018. Since retiring from my private practice in 2018, I have been volunteering weekly for KAHUBA working alongside Executive Director Andrea Pomarico in direct animal care, including assisting with BEMER therapies, sound therapies and energy medicine primarily for the horses, but also the llamas, dogs and goats – and their human guests too.
Through my involvement over the years I can speak to the efficacy of KAHUBA programs assisting our community at large. Having run my own clinic for decades as a Doctor of Chiropractic and Chinese Medicine, I have dedicated my life to helping others overcome distress, and can attest to the high proportion of stress-related and/or stress-aggravated health conditions. KAHUBA demonstrates the same commitment and high standards to assisting our community to move towards “de-stressing”, wellness, and experiencing their best, most grounded, selves.
During several of the programs at KAHUBA, I have led Qi Gong classes, which are gentle mind-body exercises similar to tai chi, but simpler to follow and give an immediate feeling of well-being even after a very short practice session. There are many studies which demonstrate the efficacy of Qi Gong in helping with depression, anxiety and many other health conditions, including hypertension, heart disease, fatigue, and insomnia. Often the classes are held in the stable with the horses surrounding us. Knowing the feeling of immediate well-being I personally experience when performing these gentle movements has encouraged me to share this technique with program participants, and having the beautiful natural setting of the barn and the land creates a perfect environment for enhanced mental wellness.
As I reflect on my own personal takeaways exploring KAHUBA’s offerings, I recall initially struggling with anxiety and stress. Their experiential offerings allowed me to explore my life through a fresh lens of perspective and possibilities, and helped me develop skills to maintain a healthier mental, emotional, physical and spiritual state of being. My most powerful experiences were several different types of sound healings, conducted with crystal bowls, gongs and other instruments, in the amazing historic barn. Just an unbelievably relaxing, centering, calming feeling!
Using the BEMER therapy was valuable for shifting my overall mental, emotional and physical state. I had been struggling with life-long spinal discomfort and also recovering from a hip replacement surgery. After experiencing the BEMER, I have enjoyed feeling more relaxed and mobile, have less discomfort, feel mentally on point, vibrant and am ready to engage in life more fully.
My own KAHUBA experiences have felt exciting, transformative and lasting after engaging in KAHUBA’s offerings. I feel more joy-filled, positive, and heart- connected with others, including the natural world we all share. I have engaged in life in fresh ways that have unlocked my potential, ignited my personal power, my ability to thrive at any age and experience pure JOY!
Noelle Dunker – Castle Rock, CO
K-6 Mindfulness Educator
As a KAHUBA program co-facilitator, workshop participant, and previous resident of Four Winds Wholeness Sanctuary, I want to share my overwhelming support for KAHUBA’s community-centered approach and its amazing team of visionary program leaders. For the past 7 years, I’ve benefited from KAHUBA’s programs that promote whole-being health and wellness and watched their efforts to enhance our community experience flourish, fostering kindness, inclusivity, compassion, and creativity, in harmony with all beings that surround them.
Privileged to live onsite for a full year as an immersive experience at KAHUBA’s Castle Rock ranch, I can personally speak to the absolute efficacy of KAHUBA programs assisting our community at large promoting mental health and wellness, and the sacred and transformative quality of doing deep, introspective healing work while nurtured by nature.
As I reflect on my own personal takeaways from participating in KAHUBA’s programs, I recall initially struggling with heartache and loss caused by the untimely death of my sister. Their experiential offerings allowed me to explore my life through a fresh lens of perspective and possibilities, and helped me develop skills to maintain a healthier mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual state of being. My most powerful experience was observing the animals transform as they gained the trust of the humans who cared for them, and helped them overcome their own traumas. Watching the horses then provide that same loving support to humans has touched my heart.
Using the BEMER therapy was valuable for shifting my overall mental, emotional, and physical state. I had been struggling with stiffness, brain fog, lack of focus, and low energy. After experiencing the BEMER, I have enjoyed remarkable results feeling more relaxed, emotionally balanced, flexible with far less discomfort, mentally on point, vibrant, and ready to engage in life more fully after I use it.
Over the years, I have remained excitedly involved with KAHUBA in numerous ways. I’ve become well acquainted with their executive team and have great respect for their insistence on acting with integrity and professionalism in all aspects of their long-time operations, and have since begun co-facilitating their children’s program. Collectively we inspire others to live as empowered and passionate beings, just as we do.
I feel KAHUBA programs and its sanctuaries have offered me a unique opportunity to explore innovative, holistic programs that have paved positive alternative pathways to navigate life’s changing circumstances, regardless of external forces happening around me beyond my control. I feel more joy-filled, positive, loving, and heart-connected with others, including the natural world we all share. I have re-engaged in life in fresh ways that have unlocked my potential, ignited my personal power, and energized my belief and ability to thrive at any age and experience JOY!
I would highly recommend KAHUBA’s curated multi-sensory, layered enrichment programs so that we can proactively offer our community of all ages effective tools for mental, emotional, physical recovery and reaffirming their reason for BE-ing. KAHUBA’s team has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of all on our planet with their heart-led compassionate approach, and ever-evolving innovative programming knowing mental health and wellness is the key to a thriving community.
Rhonda Morales – Castle Rock, CO
Journalist & Hospital Administrator
I have spent a good amount of time at Four Winds Wholeness Sanctuary over the past 10 years regularly participating in their ever-evolving events, workshops and community gatherings and have served as the lead volunteer for their annual KAHUBA Swap-n-Shop and Wellness Fair.
I want to share with you something I witnessed first hand in 2020. I attended a KAHUBA re-opening event when Covid-19 had just started to release its hold on us and we had started to feel a bit more comfortable being around people OUTSIDE.
Andrea Pomarico seized the opportunity to gather people for a morning on the ranch to be reintroduced to KAHUBA’s magical spaces, and be in contact with others after some of us had spent months in relative isolation. We had the opportunity to marvel at their delightful, newly created and pandemic-inspired Gratitude Garden, strolling its calming, meandering walking paths as we reflected on all the things we indeed had to be grateful for – reminding us there are always opportunities for imagination and expanded growth to blossom, amidst any other swirlings. I will jump right to my point which left me and others simply awe stuck!
We were in the stables hearing stories of the rescued horses that have found their forever home at KAHUBA’s two special ranches. A woman whom I don’t know stepped forward and told us that both of her elderly parents had just died a few months earlier as a result of Covid-19 and that she was devastated, now basically an orphan in the world.
As she was speaking, tears began to roll down her cheeks, accumulate and drip from her chin. That caused much the same effect for many of us listening to her story. As she spoke, one of the rescued horses, an elderly matriarchal black mare named Spirit, came up behind the woman. Separated by corral railings, the horse sidled up to the woman as best it could and wrapped its head around the woman’s shoulder and laid its head gently on her chest, covering her heart… as if empathetically grieving with her! It was remarkable! The woman stopped crying and stroked the horse’s muzzle. And soon began laughing through her tears!
Andrea explained that this horse had arrived about eight years earlier frail from starvation and neglect, every bone exposed beneath her thin skin, literally barely alive. Spirit had subsequently collapsed in defeat on the second day at the sanctuary causing severe neurological damage as her head hit the ground, making it difficult for this horse’s front legs and back legs to work in coordination with each other for quite some time. But this horse, having been rescued, rehabilitated and so lovingly “healed” by KAHUBA’s team had become a healer herself, intuitively seeking out and soothing those who are in great physical or emotional pain.
Had I not seen it myself, I don’t know if I would have believed it. But I am SO grateful to have witnessed this spontaneous animal-human emotional connection and other indelible experiences. I can testify to the potency that KAHUBA and its varied programs have in the lives of those suffering the anguish of loss, or from difficult circumstances, who are able to regain their resilience, hope and joy once again!
Dr. Jim “Doc” Weathers, DC, CKTP, IBD-S – Wheat Ridge, CO
Treating Physician, Clinical Consultant, Public Speaker, Educator
I first encountered KAHUBA’s work at Four Winds Wholeness Sanctuary while attending a Wellness Education and BEMER Application workshop in 2018, and was immediately impressed by the quality of the education they delivered by skilled instructors who were passionate about their work. I have used BEMER in my own clinic since that time, treating athlete patients, understanding how these medical devices improve microcirculation to tissues’ cells- bringing more nutrients in and detoxing out- allowing our patients to reduce recovery time physically and mentally and improve performance. As a clinician I am also aware of how the autonomic nervous system controls the sympathetic (fight/flight) and parasympathetic (relaxation/de-stressing) responses of the body and saw the clinical studies of how the BEMER – an FDA Class II Cleared medical device- helped facilitate that in the human body, and was curious to see how it worked on other species, such as horses or other animals, which KAHUBA regularly incorporates into their daily sanctuary routine.
With a mental, emotional and physical health crisis plaguing youth, adults and families throughout our world, I was eager to learn more about how KAHUBA’s unique holistic programs can help shift all aspects of one’s being. By utilizing a wide spectrum of revolutionary healing tools & techniques including multifaceted somatic (body-based) experiences, revolutionary biotechnology, and natural therapies that reboot our innate human design for self-healing, KAHUBA has developed a highly effective recipe to return one back to homeostasis, naturally.
I discovered how KAHUBA’s three program legs operate to benefit humans, animals and nature by 1) providing rehabilitation and a forever home to rescued ranch animals, who in turn provide equine assisted therapy sessions to humans; 2) offering holistic wellness education and transformative experiences for humans; plus 3) stewarding a healthy biodiverse landscape using restorative ranching practices – all three combined are intentionally designed to teach how to live in harmony together. KAHUBA also collaborates with other top health-focused nonprofits, curating layered, multi-sensory enrichment programs that combine unique proven processes and practices which speak to a variety of learning styles, resulting in better assimilation and efficacy that invites a person or animal to truly THRIVE on all levels.
Subsequently, when I experienced a tragic personal loss in my life recently, I was invited to experience KAHUBA’s transformative processes first hand to address my unbearable heartache and emotional grief, sadness and anger. Andrea introduced a series of healing elements that penetrated deeply and released my burdened stress, including equine assisted therapy, various energy sessions using sound and frequency tools, plus the BEMER to help balance my mind, body and emotions. I remember experiencing so many different emotions during these therapeutic sessions- each valid, needed, and healthy. Just a few hours later, surprisingly I left KAHUBA emotionally relieved and feeling renewed! I truly wish I had the opportunity to have KAHUBA and their program partners in my life back during my divorce to handle the struggles I faced during that time. This led to a sense of depression and a loss of hope. I took the traditional approach to counseling and talked things out, but I know personally and professionally that is only a portion of what many people need.
As a clinician, I observed KAHUBA take a scientific and passionate approach to providing me with the tools I needed to regain my own resilience, emotional self-regulation, and manage the stressors and adverse situations that come with life. During my KAHUBA experience Andrea helped me to feel my grief, but did not allow it to control my narrative. I was able to move beyond my trauma, heartache and various dis-ease via a complex, yet simple, individualized process allowing me to experience relief and regain balance in my life. I now have healthier coping skills that will set me up for a brighter and balanced future, with effective tools for me to de-stress, clear my mind, and move forward more productively personally and professionally.
My own KAHUBA experience allowed me to see how their facilitators seek to balance and heal the whole person, nurturing and integrating one’s mind, body, emotions, and spirit. Through their strong and effective collaborations, KAHUBA and its partner programs weave together heart connection, interactions with animals and nature, and restorative healing arts. They also strive to gently reboot and re-engage all aspects of our being. This is not seen with just one form of therapy or a clinical mindset. KAHUBA’s expert staff and their partners have extensive experience of relating to people of all ages and genders and backgrounds. They are skilled at addressing the root causes of their symptoms and promoting a healthier state of living. This results in innovative programming that gives emerging participants the skills, support, and tools they need.
Because we are experiencing a staggering increase in depression, divorce and suicide an rates caused by mental, emotional and physical health issues, it’s my professional opinion that KAHUBA’s initiative to install BEMER Wellness Therapy alcoves in Emergency Responder Facilities throughout Colorado would be highly beneficial and powerful for shifting our prevailing physical and mental health crisis.
I fully recommend KAHUBA’s immersive 1, 2 & 3-day Wilderness Wellness Retreats and multi-modality holistic workshops for anyone seeking relaxing and transformative wellness practices and trauma healing support, including those in crisis to assist with suicide prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery.
